KAMPONG AYER (WATER VILLAGE)
Kampong Ayer is described by early European visitors as the Venice of the East. It is made up of 28 water villages and housing an estimated 30,000 people. Kampong Ayer is the biggest water village in the world. Nowadays, it is still the traditional and historic houses on stilts and it can be accessible by boat or via wooden bridges from the houses in Kampong Ayer. It is joined by a maze of inter-connecting wooden walkways and it would be incomplete for the tourists without a trip to Kampong Ayer.
ROYAL REGALIA MUSEUM The Royal Regalia Museum is located at the center of Bandar Seri Begawan. It is one of famous museum and culturally significant places in Brunei Darussalam. This museum is constructed back in 1992. It was built to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. The unique part is the visitors have to take off their shoes outside before enter the museum. The visiting hours: Saturday to Thursday – 9am until 4.30pm Friday: 9am until 11.30am & 2.30am until 4.30pm BUKIT SUBOK RECREATIONAL PARK Bukit Subok recreational park is a great place to exercise or even for a picnic with family. It is located at Bandar Seri Begawan. The visitors can see Kampong Ayer from the top of this hill, not only that the visitors also can see the breathtaking views. Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is a royal Islamic mosque located in the heart of the city, Bandar Seri Begawan. The mosque was completed in 1958 and it is made from Italian marble, gold mosaic and English stained glass. Beside the mosque, there is an artificial lagoon near the Brunei River that resembles a ship and it was at one time used for official state ceremonies such as Holy Qur’an readings. On Thursdays and Fridays and during prayers times and functions the mosque is closed to non-muslims. The visiting hours: Sunday to Wednesday: 8am until 5.30pmTUTONG DISTRICT Merimbun Lake and Heritage Park The Merimbun Lake & Heritage Park is located at Lamunin area, Tutong. It is the biggest lake in Brunei Darussalam. It takes about an hour to reach this lake by road from Bandar Seri Begawan. There’s a small island in this lake that around the S-shaped Lake, the visitors can go there by using the wooden walkways. This lake is safe and it provides a pavilion for picnics and nature observation. Tamu Tutong Kampong Serambangun Tamu Tutong Kampong Serambangun is also known as open market. It situated about 1km from Tutong Town. This open market the visitors can buy local foods, fruits, vegetables and also handicrafts that produce from inland forest. It is open every day. BELAIT DISTRICT Wong Kadir Waterfall It is a 45 minutes’ walk from Labi Road to Wong Kadir Waterfall. Wong Kadir Waterfall is the best place to see the nature green rainforest. The visitors also can do jungle trekking and picnic is also available in here. Other than that visitors also can swim and try out the pure and cold water from the waterfall. Labi Longhouses It is further down the Labi Road. Labi longhouse is an Iban longhouse. It is a traditional longhouse and it is a village under one roof, a long house that consists of a single shed-structure that will divided and separated other family members rooms but still can inter-connecting with each other in one roof. They are also do daily indoor activities and be social with each others in one roof. Visitors are warmly welcomed to the Labi longhouse to experience the life in longhouse. TEMBURONG DISTRICT Ulu Temburong National ParkIt is situated at approximately 100 metres above sea-level and in the middle of the vast Ulu Temburong National Park Rainforest, on the banks of the Temburong and Belalong River. 50 metre high canopy walkway is very famous in Ulu Temburong National Park. The canopy walk is an amazing way of reaching the very top level of the rainforest. The visitors can use longboat to go Ulu Temburong National Park. Batang Duri Park Batang Duri Park is located about 16kilometers from Bangar. It is around a sleepy town nestled on the banks of Temburong River. Batang Duri Park has wooden walkways and playgrounds that suited for the whole family that loves this kind of environment. This breathtaking park is ideal for a family and friends outing. The visitors are also can swim in the river which has very clean and pure waters. |
